Introduction

Citizens for a Better Government (“CBG,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy.

This policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit our website, complete an online signup form, attend or register for an in-person event, or subscribe to our mobile messaging services (collectively, the “Platform”), and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

This policy applies to information we collect:

  • On this Platform;
  • In email, text, and other electronic messages between you and CBG;
  • When you provide it to CBG through an online signup process or at an in-person event;
  • When you interact with our advertising and applications on third-party websites and services, if those applications or advertising include links to this policy;
  • When you make a donation to CBG or purchase merchandise.

It does not apply to information collected by any third party, including through any application or content (including advertising) that may link to or be accessible from or on the Platform.

Please read this policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we will treat it. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, you may choose not to use the Platform. By accessing or using the Platform, signing up for services offered by CBG, or continuing to use services offered by CBG, you agree to this privacy policy. This policy may change from time to time. Your continued use of the Platform after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please check the policy periodically for updates.

By entering your phone number and selecting to opt in, you consent to join a recurring SMS/MMS text messaging program that will provide alerts, donation requests, updates, and other important information. By participating, you agree to the terms and privacy policy for auto dialed messages to the phone number you provide. Msg and data rates may apply. Msg frequency varies. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt-out at any time. SMS information is not rented, sold, or shared. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Children Under the Age of 16

The Platform, including our Website, is not intended for children under 16 years of age. No one under age 16 may provide any personal information to or on the Platform. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you are under 16, do not use or provide any information through the Platform or through any of its features, make any purchases through the Platform, make any donations through the Platform, use any of the interactive or public comment features of the Platform, or provide any information about yourself to us, including, but not limited to, your name, address, and telephone number. If we learn we have collected or received personal information from a child under 16 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information. If you believe we might have any information from or about a child under 16, please contact us at info@citizensforabettergovernment.com (with a reference to Children Under the Age of 16).

California residents under 16 years of age may have additional rights regarding the collection and sale of their personal information. Please see Your California Privacy Rights below.

Information We Collect About You and How We Collect It

We collect several types of information from and about users of the Platform, including information:

  • By which you may be personally identified, such as name, postal address, email address, telephone number, and financial information (including, but not limited to, credit card or bank account information that you provide us during a purchase or donation) (“personal information”);
  • That is about you but individually does not identify you, such as political affiliation, employment information (occupation and employer), demographic information, your telephone carrier’s name, and the date, time, and content of your messages, as well as other information that you provide.

All Website users remain anonymous unless they choose to give us their personal information. We collect this information on the Platform directly from you when you provide it to us; automatically as you navigate through the site, which may include usage details, IP addresses, and information collected through cookies, web beacons, and other tracking technologies; automatically when you respond to emails or text messages; and from third parties.

This includes, for example, information provided at the time of registering to receive updates from the Platform, donating, participating in contests, surveys, and promotions, signing up to volunteer or receive newsletters or other communications, and purchasing merchandise. We may also ask you for information when you report a problem with the Platform.
  • Records and copies of your correspondence (including email addresses or phone numbers), if you contact us.
  • Your responses to surveys, questionnaires, polls, or other data entry that we may ask you to complete.
  • Details of transactions you carry out through the Platform and of the fulfillment of your orders.
  • Your search queries on the Platform.

You also may provide information to be published or displayed (hereinafter, “posted”) on public areas of the Website, or transmitted to other users of the Website or third parties (collectively, “User Contributions”). Your User Contributions are posted on and transmitted to others at your own risk. Although we may take certain precautions, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. We cannot control the actions of other users of the Website with whom you may choose to share your User Contributions, and we cannot and do not guarantee that your User Contributions will not be viewed by unauthorized persons.

Information We Collect Through Automatic Data Collection Technologies

As you navigate through and interact with the Platform, we may use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns, including details of your visits to the Platform (such as traffic data, location data, logs, usage details, pages you visited before and after visiting the Platform, interactions with advertisements delivered by us or third parties, and other communication data and the resources you access and use on the Platform) and information about your equipment, devices, and internet connection (including your IP address, operating system, and browser type). We also may use these technologies to collect information about your online activities over time and across third-party websites or other online services (behavioral tracking).

The information we collect automatically may include personal information, and we may maintain it or associate it with personal information we collect in other ways or receive from third parties. It helps us to improve the Platform and to deliver a better and more personalized service, including by enabling us to estimate our audience size and usage patterns, store information about your preferences, speed up your searches, and recognize you when you return to the Platform.

The technologies we use for this automatic data collection may include:

They may use this information to provide you with interest-based (behavioral) advertising or other targeted content.

We do not control these third parties’ tracking technologies or how they may be used. If you have any questions about an advertisement or other targeted content, you should contact the responsible provider directly.
